Have you been to Choctaw Casinos & Resort in Durant? It’s such a quick drive from the Dallas Fort Worth metro… Seriously, we’re talking an hour from Richardson! That’s my kind of road trip! It’s far enough away that I feel like I’m out of the crazy hustle and bustle of a weekend… you know, the awkward text on a Sunday morning asking if you want to meet for brunch, and technically you could, but you’re trying to be “away”… Well, if you go to Choctaw, you’re far enough away to say you’re out of town, but you also don’t have to spend hours in the car. Win, win!
Perfect Couples Getaway at Choctaw Casinos & Resort
There is so much going on at Choctaw Casinos! They have a pool that’s perfect for cooling off in the summer (the Texas heat, y’all, I can’t!), great places to eat and drink at on the property and of course, gambling! There are table games and slot machines galore, even a poker room! There’s plenty going on to keep you entertained for a weekend.
Stay the Night at Choctaw Casinos Durant
Our rooms were in the Spa Tower, and we loved how convenient it was to get to everything! As you can assume by the name, we were in the room tower above the Spa and the Grand Theater. Once you exit the elevator, you’re only a few steps away from Gilley’s and the casino floor. I highly recommend booking your stay in these rooms! The large comfy beds, spacious bathrooms and easy access to all the fun make makes this the perfect place to stay.
Eats + Drinks
Our favorite spot to eat at is La Cantina. Pro tip, order the white queso and mix it with the salsa for a little extra kick. You can thank me later for the tip. While you’re there, be sure to get a marg or two. If you go during football season, have no fear, there are TVs all over the restaurant.
If you’re there for multiple meals, you can also dine at 1832 Steakhouse, Grand Cafe, Gilley’s, Butterfields Buffet, Bamboo Noodle Bar or in the food court. No judgement if you chose the foodcourt, cause we sure did. An XL pizza from Papa Johns was calling our name before drinking and dancing at Gilley’s.
Casino Fun
Y’all, there are SO many gaming options at Choctaw, and there are even more coming in with the expansion. Whether you’re into slot machines, Black Jack, Roulette, Texas Hold ‘Em… or Horse Racing, there’s a game for everyone. So let’s talk Horse Racing, cool? We walked by it and kind of giggled at the machine that people were sitting around, but after another walk around the South Casino, we decided to stop and check it out. Two hours later we had successfully entertained ourselves without spending too much money gambling. The screen shows you what the odds are for betting on a horse to win, to place in the top 2 and to pick the combination of the 1st and 2nd place horses. The horses go around the track in the middle and you can watch a “live” view of the race on your betting screen. We were hooked!
Of course we played a few slot machines and tried a few hands at Black Jack, but everyone has their own gambling preferences! It’s great that there are so many options for gambling, that way everyone in your group doesn’t feel forced to partake in something that doesn’t flip their switch.
Pro Tips
- I would suggest you set up a credit card to your room. It’s a lot easier to charge things to your room throughout the casino and resort vs bringing your credit card everywhere.
- Before you check out the day you leave, be sure to call down from your room to ask for valet to bring your car around… Major time saver!
- The outdoor pool opens at 10am, go early to reserve some chairs, otherwise be prepared to purchase reserved chairs or cabanas.
- It you like lower minimums on table games, South Casino is your friend! We found $5 tables there.
- Don’t forget about horse races!!
- Get to Gilley’s before the live band starts at night, much easier to find a seat before 9-10pm ish.
- Book your stay in advance! Weekends sell out.
