A poem about depression and lonlieness.
Just Being Me
Surrounded by people,
but completely alone.
Combusting with laughter,
while fighting back tears
Afraid to say something,
afraid to speak up.
No need to ruffle feathers,
no need to stir the pot.
The feelings will pass.
Of disappear.
Of brokenness.
Of not being enough.
Alone with the thoughts,
alone with the fears.
Wishing for a change,
wishing for a sign.
To move on.
To break free.
To find a place where I’m welcomed,
for just being me.
More About Just Being Me
Just Being Me is a poem about feeling alone in a world surrounded by people. The uncontrollable feelings that something isn’t right, that everything won’t be okay. When everything looks great on the outside, but on the inside you are struggling for air.
It’s about wanting to be loved and wanted to be valued by your friends and family. About craving approval and inclusion, and being kept on the outside, and not knowing why. It’s about the constant reaching for love, only to be pushed away to make room for someone else.
It’s about the feelings I have had struggled with during my deepest depressions. Mental illness is not something we should take lightly. We can’t be afraid to speak up when we struggle — and we can’t be afraid to ask someone if they are truly okay. Getting help from a professional, from anxiety and/or depression medication, from your friends is okay. Don’t be afraid to speak up. xo
