I bought my first pair of biker shorts in summer 2019 with the intent of adding a new workout pant to my closet. Today you can find my wearing a biker shorts outfit at least once a week. Biker shorts are ridiculously comfortable and so versatile! I still like to work out in them, but I love styling some cute + edgy biker shorts outfit ideas to wear out and about even more.

The Best Biker Shorts for Curvy Ladies
I’ve tried a dozen biker shorts over the last few years, and the Align biker short takes the cake for the best biker shorts for every day wear! I size down to a 12 in these biker shorts. They come in sizes 0-20 and many colors. I love the 6 and 8 inch lengths- but it’s all about finding a length that works best for you. For me, I want the short to hit mid thigh and the 10 inch goes all the way to my knee. They also have a version with pockets. Best parts of the short are that the material is soft, the perfect combination of compression and comfort, doesn’t roll down or up and the thigh seams don’t dig in!
When it comes to the best bike shorts for working out, I gravitate towards the lululemon Wunder Train style. Similar fit, but the fabric is meant to withstand a lot more friction from working out.
Biker Shorts Outfit Ideas
Before we dive into the plus size biker short outfit ideas, let’s tackle a few things. I use both mid size and plus size when describing my personal body because I am a size 14/16. No matter what size you are, these outfits can be rocked by you! Most of the items I styled my biker shorts with were from my closet already (some really old!), which I encourage you to do, too! I’m linking similar items for each outfit, but I always encourage you to shop your own closet and use these as inspirational mid size biker shorts outfit ideas.
Mesh Dress with Bike Shorts
This is one of the best biker short outfit ideas for when you want to look more put together. I reach for this outfit when I need to dress up, but I still want to feel comfortable in what I put on. Start with your bike shorts of choice and a wireless bralette as a base layer. Next you’ll add a mesh dress. This isn’t something I say often, as I prefer fitted pieces, but go for something boxy here. You have a tight fitting base layer on, so this mesh layer can be any shape or size. The key here is making sure this is monochromatic. Finish off the outfit with a chunky shoe, crossbody bag and simple accessories.
Casual Bike Short Outfit Perfect for Traveling
If you’re looking for a casual biker shorts outfit idea to rock while traveling, try this. Opt for a bold colored bike short instead of a basic black. Next add your favorite basic tank top and a belt bag. As far as socks and shoes go, you’ll want a sock that hits above your ankle but not something that hits halfway up your calves, and a chunky sneaker that is comfortable for you to walk in. Pack a light layer with you that you can wear on the plane, but doesn’t take up much space in your carry on bag when you don’t want to wear it any longer.
Oversized Tee + Bike Shorts Outfit
You can’t go wrong with a simple outfit like an oversized t-shirt and bike shorts. Don’t be afraid to try colored bike shorts when you have a simple top to pair them with, or keep the cost per wear down and rewear a black pair.
The outfit can be easily repeated with small changes like the style of shoes (chunky boots, sneakers, converse, etc) and the style of the t-shirt. You can do a basic t-shirt or something a bit more bold like a graphic tee, or a cropped shirt..
If you really want to mix it up, add another layer up top. A denim vest over a graphic tee is always a fun idea. You could also add the layer below the t-shirt, like a lacey long sleeve top or bright colored turtleneck.
See through tops that are oversized also give a totally different look than solid colored or graphic t-shirts. The t-shirt can be oversized and worn as is, you can also tuck part of it into the side of your biker shorts or even make it more of an oversized crop top by tucking the whole shirt into your bra.
Bike Shorts + Longline Sports Bra
Speaking of basics, a matching set is an underrated biker short outfit idea. You can style your favorite longline bra top with bike shorts for a bit of a model off duty look. Spice up the look by adding a ball cap and chunky earrings to it, and play around with different shoes. The key here is to use a longline sports bra or cropped workout tank to make it feel like an intentional outfit vs just leaving the gym.
A great way to dress up that base layer is with an oversized jacket. You can do something like a denim shirt, jean jacket, flannel, blazer or camo jacket.
As you’ll see in this post, a lot of great bike short outfits start with the same base layer, which is great for cost per wear. By having a good set of black, navy and/or brown bike shorts and longline bras, you can create countless outfits from what’s in your closet.
A lot of the layers are also pieces you can easily thrift to save some money!

Non-Matching Set Casual Bike Shorts Outfit
Similar to how you can play with a matching set, don’t be afraid to mix and match your base layers. These brown Aerie bike shorts go great with a longline bralette or fitted tank top. Add a layering top, baseball cap and sneaker to make a full outfit. These platform converse are super comfortable for all day wear!
It’s also fun to play with colors in the same family that are totally different. Dark brown bike shorts paired with a lighter brown jacket, like this cropped Aerie bomber jacket, and a white tank top.
Athleisure Bike Shorts Outfit
If you are looking for an outfit to quite literally take you from the gym to running errands, lean into the 80s let’s get physical vibes and don’t overthink it. Pair your favorite workout bike shorts with a full length tank top. Top off the outfit with a belt bad and your workout sneakers.
