I recently did an underwear drawer clean out and got rid of lots of old underwear that were no longer serving me. Just like the rest of your closet, a clean out is important! I have no idea if your drawer looked like mine, but it had undies that were hanging on by a thread, stained and stretched out. When cleaning it out, I kept *mostly* my favorite options that were in good shape and made me feel comfortable when wearing them. Which leads me to this post… Some of the best mid/plus size underwear in a variety of styles, brands and price points. From plus size thongs to high rise briefs and everything in between.

My Favorite Mid and Plus Size Underwear

It’s funny to think that a few years ago I would have laughed in your face if you said I had anything beyond a low rise thong in my drawer. But the older I get, the more I have realized how important having a variety of options for my base layer is. Underwear set the foundation for our outfits (just like bras!) and we should make sure that the foundation is functional, comfortable and helps us to feel confident. On that note, let’s dive into some of the best mid and plus size underwear options for us curvy gals!
You’ll find my favorite mid and plus size underwear, sorted by style, below. You will find a variety of brands and price points in each section. For sizing reference, my hips are around 50″ and waist 35″. I typically wear a size 14 or 16 in jeans.

High Waisted Briefs

I love a good granny panty, I mean high waisted brief! 🤪 If you would have told me a few years ago that I wore high waisted, full booty coverage underwear on a regular basis, I would have laughed at you. But now I have learned that the support provided for my body feels good and just because you have full coverage underwear on, doesn’t mean you can’t feel sexy in them. Let’s dive into some of my favorite high waisted briefs that I don’t worry about rolling down on my tummy or getting bunched up in my booty crack.
Wacoal Plus Size Underwear
These Wacoal underwear are a great option if you’re looking for a higher cut on your leg. These undies provide great tummy support without feeling like you are wearing anything at all. They are made from Nylon and Spandex, allowing them to stretch and mold to the shape of your body. I have not experienced rolling with these undies. This pair of underwear is what I grab when I’m wearing a dress and need just a bit of coverage for the tummy and booty (for those just in case situations). They aren’t quite as light weight as other options, so if I’m strictly looking for breathability, this is not the pair I’m looking for. I have a 2X in this style, but feel like I could size down to 1X for a bit more hold in the tummy. B-Smooth Hi-Cut Brief can be shopped at Bare Necessities, Wacoal, Nordstrom and Amazon. There’s also a 3-Pack on Amazon you can save some money on! They are available in sizes S-5X and can be found for around $15.
Harper Wilde High Rise Brief
While these are a new underwear style to me, I’m loving them so far! These underwear are a no-show raw edge around the tummy and legs (no elastic), which means there is nothing digging into your skin. They have seams up the front on either side of the belly button to provide a bit of support. I have these underwear in a size XL. No-Show Highwaist Raw Edge Brief can be shopped at Harper Wilde. They are available in sizes XS-4XL and are $12. You can also shop 5 for $45 with this underwear style.
Tommy John Underwear
These underwear are my go to high waisted breathable, comfort undies. When I’m on my period and looking for some tummy support, I grab these. The waistband does not dig in and stays up all day without rolling. The fabric is a soft, non-pilling micro modal fabric. It’s extremely light weight and breathable. I wear a size XL in these underwear. Women’s Second Skin High Rise Brief can be shopped at Tommy John, Bare Necessities and Nordstrom. They are available in sizes XS-XXL and can be found for around $18.
EBY High Waisted Briefs

When it comes to high rise underwear, I typically wear a size XL in EBY. There are two styles of high waisted briefs, and while I like both, I do gravitate towards the Seamless High Waisted style. I find EBY underwear to have a very silky smooth fabric and be very stretchy. They are seamless options, so you shouldn’t feel anything itchy or poking you throughout the underwear. I feel supported with the lightest of shaping happening in the stomach with these underwear. They are by no means a shape wear style underwear, but I do feel like I get some smoothness and support because of the fit. I have not had issues with these underwear rolling down on me as I go throughout my day. Also, when you purchase underwear from EBY, they donate a portion of the money to help women across the word start a business.
Seamless High Waisted can be shopped at EBY. They are available in sizes XS-4X and are $19. You can also use code SBE15 to save! The Seamless High Cut High Waisted can also be shopped at EBY. They are available in sizes XS-4X and are $19.
Evelyn & Bobbie High Waisted Retro Bikini

Evelyn & Bobbie might be better known for the wireless bras, but they’ve got it figured out in the underwear department, too! The underwear come in two sizes, 0-14 and 16-24. They’re made with 4-way stretch which offers the perfect amount of comfort and support for your body. They are seamless and have a cotton gusset. The underwear don’t roll down, you can’t see them under your clothes and honestly, you forget you have them on except that it’s giving your tummy some nice support. These plus size underwear come in a variety of colors, too! You can shop the Seamless High-Waisted Retro Bikini at EvelynBobbie and use code Casey15 to save on your whole order.
Knix High Rise Shaper Brief

More details to come, in the meantime, you can shop this tummy control underwear at Knix. It comes in sizes S-3XL.
Mid and Plus Size Thongs
When it comes thong underwear, I usually like mine to be low rise and super soft. The last thing I want is the band to be digging into my thighs creating additional lines and bumps. Underwear should create a good base for your outfit, not be another obstacle for how your clothes fit and lay on your body.
EBY High Waisted Thong

The EBY thong is what I reach for when I want the most tummy control I can get while wearing a thong. These underwear have cotton lining, no slip technology and they are seamless, so no worrying about a panty line. They’re made from Nylon and Spandex, so you’ll get a good stretch and hold without feeling suffocated. The sides are extra wide, which provides an extra nice hold on your high hips and side belly. You can shop these underwear at EBY for $19 in sizes XS-4X.
Evelyn & Bobbie Seamless High Waisted Thong
Similar in fabric and technology to the Retro Brief, the Evelyn & Bobbie Thong is a favorite in my underwear drawer. The fabric is a luxurious feel, the thong part of the underwear doesn’t poke and prod, the gusset is cotton and you can’t see any underwear lines. Plus your tummy gets nice and held, like a hug, with this thong. It’s available in sizes 0-14 and 16-24. You can find it in a variety of colors at EvelynBobbie. Plus, code Casey15 will help you save on your order!
Skims Plus Size Thongs

I’m going to be totally honest here, I do not have my sizing with Skims undies figured out. But with that said, they are probably the most comfortable thong in my drawer. They’ve got a range of plus size thong styles, but I particularly like this one! Honestly, I don’t know what’s held me back from exploring more of the Skims undies and shape wear options… Skims Fits Everybody Dipped Front Thong can be shopped at Skims. They are also available in sizes XXS-4X and are $18. You can also buy these as part of the 3 for $36 underwear deal.
Harper Wilde Thong

This is a new to me thong, but so far so good! It’s a very similar option to the raw edge briefs above. The thong underwear do not dig into your kind, as they have a no-show raw edge (no elastic). While I personally don’t wear underwear under leggings when I work out, these feel like a good option for those who do. It feels like you aren’t wearing anything when these are on. I wear this thong below my shelf tummy, so I can’t speak to if it rolls down or not for those wearing it higher on their stomach. I wear an XL in this thong. The No-Show Raw Edge Thong can be shopped at Harper Wilde. They are available in sizes XS-4XL and are $12. You can also shop 5 for $45 with this underwear style.
Aerie Mid Size Thongs

I find Aerie thongs to be super comfortable and fit well through the waist band and the gusset on my body. Most of these are low rise thong options, but I did include one high rise thong that I have in my underwear drawer. The type of fabric varies based on the style. Some are sexy while others are more “invisible”. I usually wear an XL in Aerie thongs. The exact styles I have keep going in and out of stock, but I wanted to make sure to include the brand as an option!
Lingerie
Most of these lingerie bottoms are from the same retailer, so my reviews will be pretty quick. The Elomi bottoms run true to size, in my opinion, and I wear XL in them. You can find a matching bra for each of the bottoms, if you are looking for a full lingerie set. As always with underwire bras, be sure you have been properly fitted before ordering! I’ve linked one other sexy pair of mid/plus size underwear below, but a quick call out that there’s a reason I don’t have a matching bra shared for it…

Low Rise Briefs

I don’t personally grab a low rise brief from my underwear drawer too often. When I wear low rise, it’s usually a thong. If I wear a brief, it’s usually a high rise to offer support to my tummy. But there are occasions I grab low rise briefs, so I have a few favorites I can share.
Bombas Underwear
Stretchy and comfortable are the first two words that come to mind with these Bombas Seamless Bikini Briefs. This is the type of underwear you wear and forget it’s on your body. I gravitate towards these underwear when I am feeling a bit blah with my body, maybe I’m PMSing or really bloated, whatever the reason, these provide comfort and support without constriction of any kind. The Women’s Seamless Bikini can be shopped at Bombas. They are available in sizes XS-2X and are $20.
Fruit of the Loom Affordable Underwear
If you are looking for a budget friendly plus size underwear option, Fruit of the Loom is worth checking out. They have multiple different styles pending your own preference, but I like the Breathable Micro-Mesh Bikini style. In fact, I feel like it has good coverage on the butt and doesn’t roll around on me. The material is also light weight and breathable, which is great for days that I sweat a lot. When it comes to sleeping in the summer, this is the first pair of underwear I’m grabbing. The Fruit of the Loom Breathable Micro-Mesh Bikini Underwear can be shopped at Walmart, Target and Amazon. They are available in sizes XS-3XL and are around $14 for a 6 pack.
Shaping / Control Undies
If you are looking for something that provides more than just a little hug on your body, take a look at these control and shaping underwear options.
Yummie

These briefs are a step up in the support from the tummy control styles above, but a step down from a heavy shape wear option. I would say you get more smoothing than shaping with them. I wear the size 1x/2x. The Yummie Seamless Ultralight Shaping Brief can be shopped at Yummie and Amazon. They are also available in sizes S-3X and around $20 a pair. Amazon typically runs a bit cheaper, but you have opportunities to use discount codes and more sizes directly through Yummie.
Underwear Drawer Organization

Part of my plan to keep on top of my underwear drawer is by using this organizer from Amazon. Each slot gets a pair of undies in it. When undies need to be thrown out, I will be able to visually see the need for a replacement pair and that’s when I can shop for something new. Within the organizer, I put thongs to the far left, then low rise briefs towards the middle and the right side has my high waisted options. I also do keep my shaping underwear and in my “solutions” drawer, along with breast lift tape and shape wear.

I also use this organizer for my bras. If you like to match your underwear to your bras, you could also put the matching bottom with the bra in this style of drawer organizer.
