It’s so much fun to spend a few extra days with your loved ones in a tropical paradise. You can make it as small or as big as you want, but we did a small wedding and it was the perfect size. I’ve shared about our Cabo wedding venue and beach wedding ceremony before, so today we are diving into the details of our boho chic destination wedding reception in Cabo! Our wedding was planned by Look At Me Brides and these photos are from Daniela Ortiz!

Destination Wedding Reception Details
When planning our destination wedding, we didn’t have specific things in mind for the majority of the day. We had high level ideas and things we wanted to draw inspo from, but as far as specific must-haves, our list was short. We wanted the day to feel romantic, yet fun and chic, yet laid back. Seeing how everything came to life, especially the wedding reception, I’d say our vision was nailed.
Take a Shot and Take Your Seat
One of our “must haves” was incorporating a “Take a Shot and Take Your Seat” tequila shot station for our guests. This was originally an idea as you walk down to the wedding ceremony, but it looked beautiful as part of the reception decor.
Fairy Lights
When we were looking for venues online, there was a photo at Paradisus Los Cabos with stunning fairy lights over a large reception area. This photo alone is what lead us to researching Paradisus by Melia as a possible wedding venue. I fell in love with look of the dark sky lit up by fairy lights and knew that was one of the details I wanted to make our day magical.
When the Look at Me Brides team shared with us the vision of one long table with the lights above it, separating the dining space from the dance floor, my jaw dropped. Even as a sketched up idea, I knew this would be a huge part of setting the mood for our dinner and dancing.
Table Setting
One of the most breath taking details from our wedding reception was the dinner table set up. From the fairy lights cascading above the long rectangular table, to the unique cups, dark stationary and romantic floral arrangements. The wedding vendors, lead by Look at Me Brides, thought of every detail.
As far as the concept and inspiration behind the table setting, I used phrases like “dessert sunset” and “deep, rich colors” to describe the colors we wanted to include. I spent way too long trying to pick specific colors for a “scheme” because I thought that was what you had to do, but giving an overall vibe/feel worked perfectly for us.
Some other ways we described how we wanted the night to feel were laid back (I went barefoot in my boho wedding dress and many guests did too), romantic (a beach sunset really helps with this one!), chic but simple (we like nice things but we also appreciate simplicity) and intimate (there were just over 20 people, including us, so we wanted it to feel that way with the details).
Cocktail Hour Lounge
I personally didn’t utilize the lounge area, but it looks so chic! This was a spot our guests could sit at during the cocktail hour after the wedding before the reception. There were also high top tables around the dance floor for hanging out at as well. While I love the way this looks and how it adds to the reception space, I would say if you need to cut a cost somewhere, this is where I would do it. In hindsight, our guests could have used the hour we took photos to freshen up in their rooms and grab a drink at one of the many bars on site. Also, my feelings about this could be very different if we had a bigger wedding.
DJ and Dance Floor
We were introduced at the wedding reception by our DJ, Emmanuel Ibarra. The song we walked into was “I Don’t Care” by Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber, which was super fun. Once we entered, we went right into our first dance, “Beyond” by Leon Bridges. We then asked our guests to join us for another special song. After that we did the mother son (“Don’t Blink” by Kenny Chesney) and father daughter (“Life’s a Dance” by John Michael Montgomery) dances.
After dinner we had a bit more time to utilize on the dance floor and Emmanuel did a great job playing songs everyone could enjoy and dance to! We did have a list of songs we didn’t want played, and honestly, I would make that choice again and again.
The Little Details
We choose to forgo some of the “traditional” wedding things like bouquet and garter toss and having a wedding cake. We did toasts during dinner, but looking back, I would have moved those to the night before or during a welcome party to free up some time during the reception.
As far as a guest book goes, we brought a Leon Bridges vinyl (our first dance song was on it) and sharpies for guests to sign it. We also brought a few Insta cameras and film that our guests could use. Looking back, I wish I would have through about a film camera, too, but oh well!

What We Wore for Our Destination Wedding Reception
We started the wedding reception out in our beach wedding attire. Austin wore a grey linen suit with brown shoes and belt. I went barefoot and wore Darling, a boho lace gown with a deep v and leg slit, from Grace Loves Lace. My Brassy Bra boob tape was still holding strong!
Following the initial set of dances, Austin and I made a quick trip up to our room to change outfits for the evening. Austin took off the long sleeve white shirt and linen jacket combo and replaced it with a white linen short sleeve shirt. We also told the groomsmen this was the plan in case they also wanted to change for the reception! I swapped my Grace Loves Lace gown for a short sparkly Show Me Your Mumu dress, and my bare-feet for sneakers. Part of my quick change was also a quick makeup touch up and taking out my hair piece from the wedding ceremony. In a perfect world, I could have had someone help me with the hair and makeup, but our budget didn’t allow for us to pay someone to stay on site that long.
