I am the first person to tell you that I love to go to football games, and also the first to tell you that the heat is no joke. Especially in Texas.. 100 degrees, feels like more and then put yourself into a stadium, it’s even hotter! In case you are also stuck trying to survive hot football games, I’m sharing some of my must have items to survive the heat.

12 Must Haves for Hot AF Football Game Days
Sharing some of my must haves for hot football game days, but if you have other tips and tricks, please share! The more the merrier.
Clear Stadium Approved Bag
Well obviously not everything is doing to fit in your pocket, so make sure you find a stadium approved bag to carry it in! It doesn’t have to be clear as long as it’s the right size… BUT, I do think clear is the way to go to avoid being told that your bag can’t come in the stadium. A friend tried to bring a belt bag in and argued it was the size of her hand, she ended up having to leave it outside the stadium and carry everything in awkwardly in her hands.
Handheld Fan
I mean you guys, it’s 2023, there are fans we can purchase off Amazon to help keep us cool, so why not use them? You can spend around $15 to get a handheld fan that you can throw in your purse when it’s not being used. This fan from Amazon saves me on hot game days, and even on my wedding day. It easily fits into your bag when you aren’t using it. I also love this neck fan when I don’t want to hold onto something. This fan also has really great reviews.
Megababe Thigh Rescue
I live for Megababe Thigh Rescue anytime I wear clothes that aren’t pants. Seriously. Walking around the football game and parking lot in shorts, skirts and dresses is dreadful without Megababe in between your legs to keep the chub rub at bay. Ain’t nobody got time for the chafe on a hot day! Don’t just take my word for it! Megababe is changing the lives of women everywhere: Refinery29 says so, Glamour, even Business Insider!
And if you have never heard of it before, it’s a “balm-life formula that creates a barrier that sits on top of skin, allowing thighs that rub to glide smoothly against each other.” And it’s very easy to put on… I’ve put it on in public many times, no shame in my game.
You can purchase Thigh Rescue at Ulta, Target, QVC and Megababe. They also have mini sizes which can fit in your bag if you need to take it with you.
Megababe Boob Dust
And you might as well order Megababe Boob Dust (to help absorb sweat) while you get your thigh rescue. I apply it before I leave the house, along with deodorant, to prepare for the hot football games. You can purchase Boob Dust at Megababe, Ulta, Target and Urban Outfitters.
Sunscreen
Speaking from experience, forgetting sunscreen on a hot day in general sucks, but when you’re tailgating and watching a game, it’s even worse! I have gotten burned at games even when I’ve been outside in the pool all summer. Be prepared by applying your favorite sunscreen before you leave the house and taking a travel size with you to reapply. You could also grab a sunscreen stick for mess-free application throughout the hot football game.
Lip Sunscreen
Whether it’s a pool day or game day, I have to protect my lips from the sun. Having chapped lips post game- or worse, fever blisters- should be avoided at all costs. My go to lip SPFs are Aquaphor Lip Balm Sunscreen or the Supergoop lip SPF . This offers relief, hydration and protection for you lips. It comes in a tiny little bottle that fits perfectly in your clear game day bag and you don’t have to worry about it melting like you would chapstick.
Oil Absorbing Blot Sheets
This is something that my girls at TCU taught me freshman year… never go to hot football games without these blotters in your clear bag! When you are becoming a sweaty mess, blot your face with the sheets and you’ll feel like a new woman.
Team Colored Bandana
Laugh all you want, but one of my favorite tricks is tying a (team colored) bandanna to my bag! It’s a great way to wipe off sweat during the day. You can even dip it into cold water and tie around your neck if you need a body temp cool down.
Shower Wipes
If you plan to go somewhere after the game, be sure to pack a shower wipe in your bag! After a day of sweating, you will probably feel a little icky and stinky. A quick refresh can change your whole mood and how you feel. I personally love the Megafresh Wipes from Megababe, but there are lots of options out there. If you want to find Megababe wipes, you can get them at Megababe, Ulta and Amazon.
Hair Scrunchi
A scrunchi looks cute on your wrist while you don’t need it, and then when you do, it looks great in your hair! When I am planning to go from down to up throughout the day, I grab my silk scrunchies for the least “creasing” possible. When I want something that is a bit more on brand for the team, Etsy is my go to to find something.
Comfy Shoes
What’s worse than sweating to death at a football game? Sweating AND complaining about your feet! “Comfy” is a relative word… if you are in cowboy boots a lot, wear them! If you’re in Birks (hey o!) a lot, wear those! Or maybe you wear sneakers all. the. time. Whatever it is, I urge you to wear comfy shoes vs something just for style.
Portable Phone Charger
A dead phone is a terrible phone. Bring a portable phone charger with you in your bag! A lot of the handheld fans need juice if they die, too, so it has a double use. Just don’t forget the correct cord. Also, if you’re super hot and don’t want to walk to your car after these hot football games, you’ll need a phone to get a Lyft… bring the charger, friend!
Game Day Outfit
What to wear for a hot football game really is dependent on a lot of factors. But generally speaking, pay attention to how much heat will stick on you with your outfit you pick out. If you attend hot football games where sporty is normal, don’t be afraid to wear fabrics that are made for workouts. I tend to gravitate towards tank tops, skorts, bike shorts, etc. Items that I can sweat in and they won’t be super sticky and that will hopefully give some good airflow.
[…] Football season is in full swing, and with great football, comes great tailgating! Am I right?! I swear that in Texas tailgating is a sport in itself. Have you ever been to a Dallas Cowboys tailgate? It is UNREAL. Of course I love the TCU tailgates, but I’m a little bias since I went there. No matter where you’re tailgating, or who you’re rooting for, the backbone to a great tailgate is a great tailgate playlist. I put together over 50 of my favorite pre-football tunes that you can easily access on Spotify. The playlist is also embedded below! In case you like to mix it up each week, a few of my other favorite tailgate playlist include: Gameday Vibes, Clemson Girl Playlist and the Ultimate Pregame Playlist. […]
